What Do You Have In Common With Olympic Athletes?

We all want to be successful in what ever we do. I’ve been catching up on the Olympics this week, and the dedication of these world habits-for-successclass athletes never fails to inspire me and have new found levels of respect for them. They are a true example of how daily action, sacrifice and continual dedication can really ensure you get to where you want to be.

It’s the same in all areas of life including starting and growing your own online business. You have to make sacrifices, take daily action and continually dedicate yourself to your cause. It may all sound a bit dramatic, but that is just the way it is.

For today’s post I have done a bit of research to put together a list of  things that you should be doing on a regular basis to make sure you are a success in your chosen area.

Start with the end in mind.

You need to know where you’re aiming for and where you are going. With out this end goal it is very difficult to plan what you need to do in order to get there. State your goals out load, or write them down, tell someone (who you trust and will be supportive) or declare them on your blog (like me!). Then if you’re ever feeling a little lost (which is OK by the way) you can refer back to them to help get yourself back on track. Be sure to follow the SMART goal setting philosophy, for those that don’t know goals should be Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time-bound.

Continually inspire yourself.

I believe you really need to be doing this on a daily basis. Unfortunately we live in  a fairly negative world where people can be quick to How-to-Inspire-Yourselfjudge and pull apart your goals. By inspiring yourself daily you are constantly reminding yourself that your goals are possible and you keep yourself in a positive ‘can do’ mind set which is SOOO important!

There are various ways you can do this and different people are inspired by different things so it is very individual. I will share with you what I do to give you a few ideas.

I listen to audio books about success, self development and mindset. I do this on my way to and from work and when ever I drive anywhere in my car. I attribute this habit to the success I have already achieved and I know it will be something that I will never stop doing now. I love the way it makes me feel! I also communicate with people who have the same goals as me and people who have already achieved success in my chosen goals. This is also a very valuable habit to get into. If you’re not inspiring yourself daily it is so easy to forget about what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. You will just end up doing the same humdrum things that most other people are doing; living a life without meaning. NO THANKS!

Be healthy

There are 2 aspects to being healthy and they’re both connected; healthy mind, healthy body. Mental health and physical health. It’s obvious why this might be important for Olympic athletes, but not so obvious in business. However speak to any successful person or read anything about the habits of successful people and you will see that both physical and mental health are up there in their list of important factors. The reason why I got into meditating was because it kept coming up time and again in the audio books I was listening to. So many people commented on how meditation was an integral part of their success, so I guessed there had to be something to it. Read any of my posts about success and meditation and you will see I am a true convert and advocate! Exercising on a regular basis is also a favorite habit of the successful. A lot of people talk about a morning power hour, where they get up early about 5 or 6 am and spend 20 minutes meditating, 20 minutes exercising and 20 minutes on self development. I work these things into my day slightly differently. I get up early to meditate, but in all honesty I have tried the getting up early to exercise and at the moment it’s not right for me, so I do it in the evening. By doing it this way I have found I am much more consistent with it. I have to say the combination of regular mediation and exercise is a powerful one – I feel amazing!!

Accept challenges

Accept challenges and do not be scared or put off by them. They will happen, it’s part of the process.  Not being prepared for this 33b93c7eventuality is such a massive reason for people giving up on their dreams unnecessarily. As soon as things go a little bit wrong or don’t turn out the way they wanted them to, they give up citing things like, ‘it’s too hard’ or ‘it doesn’t work’ 

I hold my hands up and admit  I have done this in the past. I used to be that person who though that I could build a business and make money on line and it would be really easy. When it wasn’t I lost faith and gave up. We have all done it!

But then I learnt (through listening to my daily audio books) that actually, challenges, road blocks, hic-ups, what ever you want to call them, are actually all part of the process. It is how you deal with them that will determine your success.

Now when something goes wrong, or doesn’t go according to plan, rather than getting in a big strop about it, I can sit down and say to myself ‘this is fine, it’s a test I need to get through it and move on’ Having this new insight as been so valuable! It’s enabled me to get further with my goals than ever before. It really is such a refreshing mindset to have. So accept your challenges, head on and deal with them and I promise your will see you success grow and grow!

Take daily action

It’s important to do all of these things;  keeping yourself inspired, fit, healthy and in the right mindset, but you also have to take action. You have to do things that will help you move forward and achieve your goals. The other points will make this process easier and smoother but with out taking action you wont get anywhere. Your action needs to be consistent. Work on your business or your goals every day. An hour day is better than 7 hours once a week. Why because it keeps you in the mindset. It means you’re thinking about your goals every day. If you’re only thinking about them once a week it’s much easier to let things slip. Plan your actions the day before so you know what you have to do. Prioritize the things that need doing. You need to be organised and prepared to make the most of your time. Most of us are on this journey of building an online business because we want more money, but that is usually so we can have more time. Time is irreplaceable so we must use it wisely and effectively. There is a great book by Jeff Olson called ‘The Slight Edge’ which is basically about how the small and little things we do on daily basis, which may seem insignificant at the time are actually the building blocks for great success. You should definitely read it. In fact I have just inspired myself to read it again!

So whether you aspire to be an Olympic athlete, or a successful internet marketer, start making these 5 points a priority and watch yourself grow!
