The other day one of the admins in a Facebook group I am in asked the question; ‘What is the most important thing for success in your business?’
My answer was immediate because it’s something I know I have been struggling with this month; Consistency. It was also a common answer among a lot of other members of the group.
So why is consistency so important? Because it helps you to succeed, to get to your goals faster and to become better at what you’re doing. By being consistent in what you’re doing, you are laying a solid foundation on which to build your business. Being consistent keeps you motivated and helps you power on when things aren’t as great as they could be.
It all sounds so easy doesn’t it? Just be consistent and bingo, you’ll have a successful business!
Being consistent isn’t as easy as it sounds, for a lot of people. It takes self-discipline, sacrifice, patience and focus. Plus there is this little thing called life that perpetually gets in the way and scuppers your best laid plans!
October has been full of life and plans being scuppered and as a result I have not been as consistent as I could or should which has left me feeling a little bit ‘meh’ and lethargic in relation to my business. This is always a really busy time of year for me and as is usually the case I have things booked in almost every weekend until the end of the year! Because I work full time this is not good news for making progress with my business!
So what am I going to do about it? Well first of all not beat myself up! In the same Facebook group recently there was another question asking whether people experienced periods of feeling despondent and unmotivated when it comes to building their business, and there was lots of responses confirming that this is actually a really common issue. So at least I can rest in the fact that I’m normal! As are you if you’re reading this and it’s relating to you!
That’s fine, but I actually want to do something about it, I want to be more consistent, I want to start really moving forward now and seeing some real progress. I know that being consistent in the action I take will help me to achieve this.
As it would happen whilst preparing to write this blog post, I saw a FB live from my mentor. He is currently on holiday, his first holiday in 5 years. He has spent the last 8 years consistently building his business into an amazing success. He did this FB live from the beach where he’d been sat contemplating his journey so far. He had a really powerful message about how the internet can irrevocably change your life but in order to do so, you have to be prepared to change too. He spoke about the need to change your habits, your thinking and your mind-set. He finished by saying
‘If you don’t change yourself, you can’t change your life’
I found this very powerful and spot on for timing! The only person who can help me to achieve more consistency is ME!
So I need to have a word with myself and start looking at my priorities and changing them around a bit. Also continuing to work on my mindset. I generally think my mindset is spot on, but maybe by thinking that I am stopping myself from actually developing it further. I listen to a lot of mindset and self development books, but do you know what? I never really do the exercises in them. I have recently started to question that maybe I am doing myself a disservice by not doing this. So that is going to change from today. I’m excited to share with you the outcome of this over the coming months 🙂
That’s it for today, I would love to hear whether you encounter these periods of lethargy or lacking motivation when it comes to your business, and what do you do to tackle them? Please leave a comment and let me know.
Bye for now 🙂
