The idea of making money blogging is something that appeals to a lot of people, hence there being a lot of information out there about it. Blogging is nothing new now a days, lots of people are doing it. Some do it for fun, some for business, and some to get their opinions across. The inevitable question ‘have I missed the boat with this?’ is one that gets asked a lot. The answers to this question are many and varied, from ‘Yes you can easily make millions blogging’ to ‘No, it’s impossible and anyone who says any different is a liar.’
So what is the reality?
People can and do make money from blogging. But do they make much? Are they the people that got in there first? Do ‘newbies’ stand a chance? Today’s blog post is going to try and offer some clarity on these questions. What I am not going to do in this post, is talk about how to set up a blog or website and what to put in it. If you want to find out about that, simply check out the ‘building a website’ page within this website.
First off let’s start by acknowledging some bloggers who have achieved success, in the not too distant past.
Caz and Craig Makepeace – ytravelblog.com
Ella Woodward – deliciouslyella.com
Julie Nowell – bluntmoms.com
All of these websites have started between 2010 and 2013 and are considered to be successful. They started out as part-time hobbies and have become full-time projects making full-time income. They cover a variety of niches and you’ll notice that they have all evolved into more than just a basic blog. They are now interactive websites where you can buy things or be signposted to other websites, products and services that are relevant to their niche topic.
This gives us a good insight into the answer to our question. It clearly is possible to make money blogging and the concern about having ‘missed the boat’ is not a necessarily a valid one. However it’s only fair to point out that these are not typical examples. I used these to illustrate the fact that it is possible.
What these examples also tell us is that ‘blogging’ in the sense of making money online, is much more than purely writing and publishing posts on a certain subject. There is a lot more going on than this. The reason why a lot of people look into blogging as a way of making money is because there is a misconception that it’s ‘easy money’. This is simply not the case. You’ll notice that in the above examples, although I have described them as recent success, the most recent blog was still started over 2 years ago. This is because, as with everything, things do not happen overnight, blogging to make money is not a get rich quick, money for nothing thing. It takes time, it takes hard work and it takes lots of motivation and persistence.
If you acknowledge these points from the start and set your expectations realistically and then invest the time and effort needed, there is no reason why you cannot make money blogging. You might want to check out a previous post on getting into the right mind set, which is a really important point to consider when setting out to make money online.
While this post has answered the question about whether it is still possible to make money blogging, it still leaves the question ‘How? What do I have to do to make money blogging?’ This will be my next post on the subject, published by the end of the week, so make sure you come back to find out!
Bye for now 🙂
