The previous post published was about whether it is still possible to make money blogging, you can check that out here. Promised at the end of that post, was one on how to monetize your blog. So, here it is.

There are lots of ways to set your blog up so that it starts earning you money. As with all things internet based, things change and develop and evolve over time. Making money blogging is no different. In this post I am going to discuss three ways of monetizing your blog. They are in no particular order and my advice would be to take a look at them all and then pick one and start there. Don’t try and do them all at once because it will be overwhelming. Choose one that you can relate to or you feel comfortable with and build on that.

Google AdSense

Google AdSense is an excellent way of starting to bring in a little income using your blog. Google will place ads, relevant to your niche within your website. When your visitors come to your website and then click on that ad, youUntitled will get a small payment. Now you’re not going to earn a tonne of money doing this, but you can earn a little bit. Obviously the more traffic you have coming to your website, the higher your chances of the ads being clicked. Also the more websites you have the more ads you can have. That is why something like Wealthy Affiliate is so good. They will host up to 25 websites for you, and you can link your AdSense account to all of them.

In order to get an AdSense account, you need a Gmail account, and then you will have to apply for the AdSense account. You will need to have the website you would like put ads on up and running and have already made several posts to it. Check out this training showing you what to do once you have your AdSense account.

A word or warning, do read the terms and conditions of having an AdSense account, Google will shut your account down if you break them. One of the most important rules – NEVER click on your own ads. They WILL know!

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is another great way to make money. I recently posted an article called ‘what is affiliate marketing?’ which you can check out to get the low down on everything you need to know.

Selling Products

Some people feel this is a more advanced option, but it doesn’t have to be. ‘Selling Products’ is quite a vague heading. It breaks down into 2 categories really.

Selling actual physical products and selling information products.

Physical Products.

Selling actual products requires you to have an eCommerce website which acts like a store front. This involves having the products, storing them, mailing them and a lot more. You can use services like FBA inspection through Amazon. They will take care of a lot of this for you. This is something I am currently doing, but it is not something I am going to go into in this post, as I feel it is outside the realms of ‘monetizing your blog’. It will probably be a topic I write about in the future though.

An easier way of selling actual products is to do it as an affiliate. The mighty Amazon is a good way to get started with this. You sign up as an affiliate and you can then advertise products that are compatible with your niche and send your customers to Amazon to buy them. You can also look at other businesses that sell these products and find out whether they have an affiliate program.

Information Products

Information products are things like eBooks, PDfs, powerpoint presentations, video courses, webinars, Mp3 courses; the list is long and varied. The big plus with them is you do not have the hassle of storage or posting and packaging. This makes them a lot easier and lot more cost effective to work with. Information products are booming business in the world of affiliate marketing, for this very reason.

A quick visit to Clickbank or JVZoo, will demonstrate the opportunity available to work as an affiliate marketer with information products. If you are not confident in making your own information product, then being an affiliate is a great place to start. This will also help you to experience what kinds of products are out there, what kind of format they’re in and how well they do.

Over time this should give you the confidence to create your own information product. If you do this right, it can really be quite lucrative. The benefits of doing it yourself, is that you then own that product. If you are selling something that you created on your website, it instantly gives you more credibility. The more credible you are, the better you do as an affiliate marketer too. People buy stuff from people they trust!

So these are 3 of the best ways to start monetizing your blog. These may change over time and I will review this post accordingly and add and change things. In the mean time I would love to hear any thoughts you may have or experiences you have had with monetizing your own blog. Please feel free to comment below, I would love to hear from you.

Bye for now 🙂

Thank you Max, that is a lovely compliment. It’s good to hear as that is my goal too, to provide useful and easy to understand information to people, and I’m glad that my website is achieving that! Thanks for taking the time to look and comment 🙂

My favorite way to monetize my blog is definitely information products with affiliate marketing as you have no inventory and and your just selling information. The only thing is, it can be tougher than just selling a good physical product, or getting your first adsense money.

Have you had much success with adsense? as some make a killing with it.

Thanks Brandon, I’ve only just started with AdSense so its early days really. Ive had the most success with selling physcal products via Amazon and also information products in the form of eBooks. I am now in the process of adding AdSense and affiliate marketing to the list 🙂
