It’s the final countdown! *breaks into that old 80’s track by Europe* 31 days left of the year, what are you going to do with them to make them count?
I LOVE this time of year, I am one of those people who get insanely excited about Christmas, the run up to it, spending time with family and friends, eating and drinking too much and having twinkling lights and Christmas music wherever you go, it just makes me so happy! But the minute it’s over, I’m done with it too the decorations are down and my thoughts turn to clean slates and excitement about the New Year and what opportunities it’s going to bring.
I’m starting to get excited about that already, about what is going to happen in 2018 with my business. If you read Octobers monthly review, you’ll know I was feeling disappointed with the progress I have made in 2017… but on reflection I noted that I have actually achieved a lot.
I’ve got my mojo back this month! I think the start of a new year on the horizon is always really helpful with feeling motivated and optimistic, but it’s also because I’ve spent a lot of November getting refocused connecting with my goals.
I find that it’s so easy to get overwhelmed and distracted that I find myself ‘busy’ doing lots of stuff. This makes me feel like I’m being constructive, but when I actually reflect on these activities they haven’t really helped me to move forward and actually achieve my goals.
When I look back over this year, I have been very busy but as I’ve said, I’ve not made as much progress as I would have liked.I know I am a terrible procratinator, however I have learnt that some of this is part of the process; I have been amazed at just how time consuming certain activities can be. For example creating digital products, I’ve created 2 this year and they are very labour intensive! I know I will get quicker at this the more I do it, but the important thing here is that I had something to show for it at the end of all this effort. I was very busy but in this busyness I was moving towards a goal.
There are other kinds of busy that don’t do this; I’ve spent hours and hours studying Facebook ads and setting them up, only to turn them off again a day or two later. Part of this is financial reasons; I don’t want to waste money on ads if they’re not working, but part of it is fear too. I don’t want loads of people on my email list yet because I’m just not ready to communicate with on a regular basis! One of the most valuable pieces of advice I have heard this year comes from one of mentors, who has said on several occasions
“Don’t waste all your time studying and learning about what you’re going to do. Just take action and learn on the go”
I think this sums up my 2017 very well. I have been busy studying, but not acting on what I have learnt as much as I should have been.
So with a whole year of studying and ground work under my belt, December is about planning for 2018 and how I am going to be putting all this into action. Next year is going to be a year of action taking and massive growth. I’ll be setting out my action steps and goals on the 1st of January so stick around and watch me and Income Objective become something awesome.
Follow in my footsteps and make 2018 the year your business makes massive growth too. Let’s do it together and this time next year we’ll be celebrating!
Have a great December, enjoy the festivities but get your plans in place so you can hit 2018 running. Let me know what your action steps are going to be so that 2018 is the best year yet!
Bye for now 🙂
