Have you got to grips with list building? This is what I have been concentrating on over the couple of weeks. One of the most important points I have learnt so far, is that if you want to be a successful internet marketer, you have to have a list!
But why is this so important? What is the best way to do it? Can you have success without a list? If you’ve ever asked yourself any of these questions, then read on as these are the questions I am going to try and answer so you can get to grips with list building.
The reason why list building is so important is that it is essentially your customer base. It’s made up of people who are interested in your niche and who maybe open to spending money in that niche. Another way of looking at it is that it’s a data base of targeted leads.
The size of your list is totally up to you, you can keep it a certain size or you can grow it as large as you like. You can have as many as you like. The limit is set by you and how much commitment and effort you’re willing to put into growing it.
List building comes in 2 parts. There is physically building your list by getting the email addresses, and the second part which is maintaining and looking after your list. This is called email marketing. List building and email marketing go hand in hand. You can’t really have one without the other.
Email marketing enables you to build your brand and become known as an authority figure or ‘go to’ person in your niche. It also enables you to build a relationship with your list, provide them with value and educate them on things they want to know. You can also let them know about products, whether they be your own or affiliates, that they can buy to help them achieve their goals.
It’s really important to treat your list with respect and not like a cash cow. If you just send them loads of emails trying to sell them stuff, they are very quickly going to see you as wanting one thing from them and they’ll unsubscribe. This is all part of building a relationship with them. Write to them as f you’re writing to a friend, be yourself and give away a bit about yourself. Make yourself real. Also give them valuable and useful information, be available to them. By doing this they will have more respect for you, they will want to hear what you have to say. When you have a relationship like this with your list, you have something very valuable. If you recommend a product or service to these people, they are much more likely to buy from you. They are what is known as warm traffic. Warm traffic converts well.
It is a 2 way relationship though and this is where so many people go wrong. You cant just expect your list to put out and buy from you whenever you email them, if you’re not doing anything for them in return. Woo them with your knowledge. Take the time to educate yourself so that you can educate them. If you can get this part right, you will be on to something very lucrative.
I am going to continue to share what I learn about list building with you, so keep your eye out for part 2 coming soon. I will cover what you need to start building a list and the beauty of automation. In the mean time I would love to hear any tips you have on list building or whether you need any help, either way get in touch.
Bye for now 🙂
