Google Plus is fast becoming one of the most popular social networks, but there still remains a lot of mystery around it and it’s true awesomeness is still unknown to a lot of people. If you are serious about having an online presence then you need to get the low down on Google Plus.
This post will covers 6 of things that you can use Google Plus for which demonstrate this awesomeness!
#1 Private Messaging without an email address. You can send a private message to someone you know or someone you don’t know. For example, if you wanted to get the attention of an authority figure, you could do this through Google Plus. It isn’t always immediately obvious how to do this, but it is in fact quite simple. Within your home page there is a text box in the top left hand corner encouraging you to ‘Share what’s new’. Here you can simply write your message and then chose who you want to share this with, public (everyone!), a specific person or a specific circle.
#2 Pin Posts at the top of your stream. Again this isn’t immediately obvious but you do have the option to keep a certain post pinned to the top of your feed. Within your profile, go to posts and chose the post you would like to pin. In the top right hand corner of that post you’ll find the menu options, and select ‘pin this post’.
#3 Create Polls. With over 350 million active users, Google Plus is a great place to get feedback and opinions from a wide variety of other people. Whether you’re trying to do market research for a new product, or get opinions about a product you’re thinking about buying, creating a poll is a really effective way of doing this. To create a poll, go to the same text box as discussed in point number 1 and choose the ‘Poll’ option.
#4 Create a ‘Save For Later’ circle. This is a really handy way of saving websites, articles, documents, etc. that you don’t have time to read now, or you know will come in handy in the future as part of your research, or that you want to share with someone else. Create a circle; call it ‘Save For Later’ or whatever suits you. Do not save people in it. You can then share these articles/websites with that circle and there by creating a reminder and link back to it.
#5 Embed your Google Plus posts within your website. If you have something in your stream in Google Plus that might be relevant on your blog or website you can embed it in there. This will then attract visitors to your blog, to your Google Plus account. To do this, go the post that you want to embed, go to the menu options, and chose ‘embed post’. You will then be given some code that you can copy and paste to the location you want it on your blog.
#6 Create a mini blog. You have up to 1000 words you can use within each post. That is more than enough to use for a mini blog. You have the option to include some pictures and links within these posts and you can then embed them into your own website. The benefits of doing this are to encourage interaction with the community and there by getting yourself or your brand much more visible.
I hope you’ve found these little tips helpful. If you’re not using Google Plus already, go ad set up an account now!
Bye for now 🙂
